Wiki:
Ng (pronounced[]; English approximation often /?/ or /?/) is a Cantonese and Hakkatransliteration of the Chinese surnames吳/吴 (Pinyin transliteration for Mandarin equivalent: Wú) and 伍 (Mandarin Wǔ) meaning "five". In Hokkien (Taiwanese) and Teochew, Ng corresponds to the surname黃/黄 (Mandarin Huáng) meaning "yellow"; or to 阮 (Mandarin Ruǎn).
The surname is sometimes romanized as Ang, Eng, Ing and Ong in the United States and Ung in Australia. Ng is sometimes romanized as Woo or Wu even by people of Cantonese origin, such as John Woo. In Vietnam, the corresponding surname is Ng?. In Cambodia, the corresponding surname is Oeng. 吴 / 吳 (Wú) was the 10th most common Chinese surname in 2006 and was the 8th most common in 1990.
这个姓氏的标准发音就是一个开口的后鼻音[
]。据说在新加坡大家念得和这个纯鼻音比较像,是uhng;而在美国,大家一般念ing或者eng.贴一段Quora:
In Singapore there are plenty of Ng's and they could be any one of the above six (or eight) possibilities(徐驰注:其实是四个主要的汉族姓氏). In Singapore English, 'Ng' is usually simply pronounced as very roughly 'uhng' (there is very little hint of any vowel though). I recommend that as the standard for English-speakers, because it is probably the best compromise.https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-pronounce-the-surname-Ng
The apparently-standard 'ing' in the US is awful, but perhaps easier for Americans for whom Hyundai is "just like Sunday".
因此看到这个姓的时候,最好还是问一问主人,他们自己怎么念。
ng是后鼻音,把jiang里的jia去掉剩下的音就是ng。
对应闽南语的“黄”
